Coronavirus Contingency Update

17th Mar 2020

17.3.2020

At this time there is great uncertainty in regard to appropriate actions needed to be taken by schools to combat the spread of Coronavirus. We as a school, continue to follow advice published by the Dept. of Education and the Public Health Agency. When there is a decision made to close schools, I will let you know immediately via text.

Many of us have elderly relatives and family members who are particularly vulnerable to serious illness.  We are all deeply concerned that our children may become ill or transmit infection to other relatives. As principal and a daughter of elderly parents, I support any decision you take as a family to protect yourselves.   I also wish to reassure everyone that there have been important changes to our children's routines such as an increase in hand washing, hygiene and cleaning within the school.

I understand that any decision taken will have consequences for everyone - this is a 'no win' situation. We are starting to put preparations in place to prepare for 'Home Learning' in these extreme circumstances.  I realise that providing work is not the same as teaching children, however it is the only course of action open to all schools.

The teachers have prepared home learning packs/useful websites for the first 2 weeks that school is closed. These will be handed out this week. Arrangements will be made for you to collect the pack, if your child is absent. If necessary, after that, from 20th April, the teachers will post work (on a daily basis) onto the website in the Home Learning Section of the Pupil Area. Teachers will be available to answer queries concerning the work set (all other queries should be addressed to me) via email during their normal working hours.

We are living in times of extenuating circumstance for all. The main thing is to follow the guidelines and stay safe.
